É uma ave bastante semelhante aos gansos domésticos. As penas são em geral cinzentas acastanhadas, as patas cor-de-rosa e o bico forte e laranja. Costuma formar grandes bandos, de dezenas até centenas de aves. Quando em voo, o seu pescoço comprido fica bastante projectado, conferindo-lhe uma silhueta característica. É em geral comum no território português, com distribuição bastante localizada. Ocorre entre Outubro e Março.
It is a bird very similar to the domestic geese. The feathers are generally, brownish gray, the feet are pink and the beak is strong and orange. Often form large flocks, of tens to hundreds of birds. When in flight, its long neck stays quite projected, giving it a characteristic silhouette. It is generally common in the Portuguese territory, with a very localized distribution. It occurs between October and March.
