O Falcão-peregrino (Falco peregrinus) é o maior falcão que ocorre em Portugal e é o animal mais veloz do mundo. Caracteriza-se pelas suas asas largas, pela cauda curta e os seus grandes olhos negros. Se observado a pequena distância, são visíveis as patas amarelas e um "bigode" espesso . Está presente em Portugal durante todo o ano mas está considerada com estatuto de conservação de vulnerável.

Estava eu no pontão norte (Porto de Pesca) da Póvoa de Varzim a observar aves marinhas, quando ouço uma grande algazarra por trás de mim e observo este juvenil de Falcão-peregrino a ser perseguido por algumas gaivotas, presumo que ele teve a ousadia de atacar alguma ave junto de um bando delas, provavelmente uma Rola-do-mar (Arenaria interpres), ele não contaria com o ataque (sendo novo e inexperiente) de algumas gaivotas e principalmente uma que o perseguiu durante algum tempo.
I was on the north pontoon (Fishing Port) of Povoa de Varzim to observe seabirds, when I hear a big commotion behind me and watch this juvenile Peregrine Falcon being chased by some seagulls, I assume he had the gall to attack any bird from a bunch of them, probably a Turnstone (Arenaria interpres), he did not count on the attack (being new and inexperienced) some seagulls and especially one, who pursued him for some time.
