This bird is associated with open woodlands, farmland and woods with scattered trees, avoiding extensive forestes or open spaces without trees. It covers all the portuguese territory but is more common in northern and central interior while in the south can be seen both on the coast and inland. Eat seeds, but in breeding season feeds mainly on spiders and larvae that are caught in the area of lower vegetation. This lark is known for his song wich is one of the most attractive reference cited in the Shakespear play, Romeo and Juliet.
