O Alfaiate é uma ave limícola de grandes dimensões com plumagem preta e branca. Distingue-se à distância sobretudo pelo bico fino e preto fortemente recurvado para cima. Outra curiosidade desta ave é a forma como "varre" continuamente o lodo, quando se alimenta, com o seu bico curvo. A sua dieta consiste em insectos aquáticos e outras criaturas pequenas. Está espécie está presente sobretudo de Outubro a Março podendo ser observada em áreas costeiras como estuários e salinas.
The Avocet is a wader of great dimensions with black and white plumage. It distinguishes from the distance mainly by its thin and black beak strongly curved upwards. Another curiosity of this bird is the way of feeding that "sweeps" continuously the mud, when feeding, with its curved beak. its diet consist in aquatic insects and other small creatures. This specie is present mainly from October to March and can be seen in coastal areas like estuaries and salt pans.
