A plumagem desta garça é uma combinação de preto e bege. Está presente em Portugal principalmente desde o início de Abril até ao mês de Setembro mas pode ser ocasionalmente observado durante o Inverno. Ocorre principalmente em porções de água com abundante vegetação emergente, como lagoas e certos troços de rios.
The plumage of this egret is a combination of black and beige. It is present in Portugal mainly since the beginning of April until the month of September, but may ocasionally be observed during the winter. It occurs mainly in portions of water with abundant emergent vegetation, such as lagoons and certain sections of rivers.
