O seu habitat natural são as matas de azinheira e sobreiros do centro e sul. São ainda observadas com frequência em olivais, pinhais, pomares e eucaliptais. A base da sua alimentação são os insectos que é complementada no Outono com bagas e sementes. Esta ave é nativa da Península Ibérica e Extremo Oriente. A população estendia-se de um lado ao outro dos continentes, contudo esta fragmentação deveu-se às alterações climáticas da última Idade do Gelo. A descida da temperatura foi tão acentuada que apenas as aves situadas nos extremos dos continentes conseguiram sobreviver pois as temperaturas eram mais toleráveis.
Its natural habitat is the forests of holm oak and cork in the center and south. Are also frequently seen in olive groves, pine forests, orchards and eucalyptus woods. The base of their diet are insects which is complemented in Autumn with berries and seeds. This bird is native from Iberia Peninsula and Far East. The population is extended from one side to the other of the continents, however this fragmentation was due to climate change of the last Ice Age. The drop in temperature was so pronounced that only the birds located at the extremes of the continents managed to survive because the temperatures were more tolerable.
