
It presents pointed wings, long tail, the beak is short and strong, typical in most species of this group. There are differences in plumage and size between males and females of this specie, being the female bigger and less colorful. The back is color of rust, very mottled in black, with the tip of the wings dark. The male has the tail and neck smooth, bluish gray. It is a common specie in Portugal, abundant in agricultural areas in the vicinity of urban areas. As resident it can be seen throughout the year.
