This bird frequents both dry areas as wetlands, depending on food resources. It is usually associated with open areas with low vegetation, including pastures, cultivated lands, rice fields, water courses, laggons and ponds. They are frequently observed removing ticks and flies from cattle. It feeds of insects but also spiders, mollusks, amphibious, reptiles and small mammals.
