

The male have the beak and the eyes red, the neck and the chest are black, the back brown and the flanks are white, the tail is gray and the feet are red. The female has the beak grayish black with the extremity orange and the eyes brown. In flight, both are distinguished for having a clear white bar all over the length of the wings. It feeds of vegetation, as for example, leaves, stems, roots and seeds of aquatic plants. It can include also in their diet, aquatic insects, larvae, crustaceous and molluscs.
