This duck is different from the usual topology from this group, mainly due to the thin and long beak. The most peculiar characteristic are the feathers on the nape raised. The male presents the head dark green, the beak thin and reddish, a white collar and a pattern light/dark with a large white band in the sides. The female, of more pale tonalities shows a brown head and a gray body. The number of birds that visit our territory is reduced, being this specie little common. The best season of observation elapses between November and March, being a typical species of estuaries and large lakes.
