Espécie vulnerável, com população muito reduzido em Portugal, ocorre principalmente na zona costeira durante o inverno. Habita principalmente zonas entre marés, salinas e campos agrícolas alagados. A maior parte das áreas de estuário utilizadas por esta população durante o inverno, estão incluídas em áreas com estatuto legal, reservas naturais de protecção especial tipo Ramsar.
Vulnerable specie, with much reduced population in Portugal,occurs mainly in the coastal zone during the winter. It inhabits mainly zones between tides, salt mines and flooded agricultural fields. Most of the areas of estuary used by this population during the winter are enclosed in areas with legal statute, natural reserves of special protection of Ramsar type.
