Esta espécie de origem africana de tamanho semelhante a um pardal, colonizou com sucesso as zonas húmidas do nosso território. O macho é facilmente identificável pelo capuz preto, pelo ventre amarelo e pelo dorso esverdeado sem manchas. A fêmea, tal como o macho fora da época de nidificação, é acastanhada, com o dorso riscado e as partes inferiores claras. Apresenta uma distribuição muito localizada em Portugal, situados principamente na Estremadura, Ribatejo e Algarve. Está presente durante todo o ano sendo no entanto mais fácil de ser observado entre Abril a Outubro, época em que os machos exibem a sua vistosa plumagem nupcial.
This species of African origin, of similar size to a sparrow, colonized successfully the wetlands of our country. The male is easily identifiable by the black hood, the yellow belly, and the green back without spots. The female, as the male outside of nesting season, is brown, with dorsal stripe and the lower parts clear. Shows a very localized distribution in Portugal, located principally in Estremadura, Ribatejo and Algarve. It is present throughout the year but it is easier to be observed from April to October, a period in which the males display their plumage Bridal dressy.
