Bico-de-lacre / Common Waxbill / Estrilda astrild

Esta ave, mais pequena que um Pardal, pode ser fácilmente reconhecida pelo bico vermelho vivo e pela máscara também vermelha, que se estende para trás do olho. O resto da plumagem é dominadada pelo castanho nas partes superiores e nas asas, ao passo que o ventre tem tons avermelhados. Esta ave foi introduzida no teritório português na Lagoa de Óbidos em 1968 e expandiu-se rápidamente pelo nosso território, sendo agora uma espécie relactivamente comum. É mais frequente em zonas de baixa altitude, em especial junto a zonas húmidas ou linhas de água com vegetação densa, sendo mais comum no sul do que no norte e mais comum no litoral que no interior. Pode ser observado em Portugal durante todo o ano.
This bird, smaller than a Sparrow, can be easily recognized by its bright red thick beak and by its red mask too, which extends back of the eye. The rest of the plumage is dominated by brown on the superior parts in the wings, while the belly has reddish tons. This bird has introduced in the portuguese territory in Lagoa of Óbidos in 1968 and expanded rapidly troughout our territory, being now a relactively common species. It is more frequent in areas at low altitude, especially along the wetlands or water lines with dense vegetation, being more common in the south than the north and more common in the littoral than in the interior.
