
This Egret of white plumage and medium size has, during the summer, two long feathers on the back of the head, has black beak, black legs and yellow feet. It nests in trees and shrubs near water. It feeds off fish, frogs, insects, snails, etc., that catch in little deep lakes, ponds and flooded land. It is mainly resident in Portugal and can be seen throughout the year, being more abundant in the south coast of the territory and rare in the interior north.
