Esta Garça de plumagem branca e de média dimensão tem, durante o Verão, duas penas mais longas na nuca, tem o bico preto, patas pretas e pés amarelos. Nidifica em árvores e arbustos próximos de água. Alimenta-se de peixe, rãs , insectos, caracóis, etc., que captura em lagos pouco profundos, lagoas e terrenos alagados. É sobretudo residente em Portugal e pode ser vista durante todo o ano, sendo mais abundante no litoral sul do território e raro no interior norte.
This Egret of white plumage and medium size has, during the summer, two long feathers on the back of the head, has black beak, black legs and yellow feet. It nests in trees and shrubs near water. It feeds off fish, frogs, insects, snails, etc., that catch in little deep lakes, ponds and flooded land. It is mainly resident in Portugal and can be seen throughout the year, being more abundant in the south coast of the territory and rare in the interior north.
