Esta ave é uma limícola de aspecto elegante e de porte médio. As características mais distintas são as patas altas e o bico longo ligeiramente curvado para cima. Outra característica particular é a coloração negra da parte terminal da cauda precedida de uma barra branca. A plumagem tem uma coloração diferente no Inverno, com as costas cinzentas e barriga branca e uma plumagem em época nupcial com tons alaranjados e vermelhos e barras pretas ao longo da parte anterior do pescoço e barriga.
This bird is a wader with an elegant looking and medium size. The most distinctive features are the high legs and the long beak slightly curved up. Another particular characteristic is the black color of the terminal part of tail preceded by a white bar. The plumage has a different coloration in the winter, with the gray back and white belly and a plumage in the nuptial season with orange and red tones and black bars along the anterior part of the neck and belly.
