Não é uma ave muito fácil de avistar porque os seus hábitos são marcadamente nocturnos, embora, quando as condições permitem, pode ser observado durante o dia ou crepúsculo.Tem sobrancelhas brancas e largas na face. As suas asas são largas e arredondadas, salpicadas de branco na parte superior. A parte interior do corpo é esbranquiçada e fortemente listrada de castanho-escuro. É, assim como todos os seus familiares, estritamente carnívora. O seu alimento são invertebrados terrestres, anfíbios, répteis e outras aves e até mesmo animais atropelados na estrada.Vive na estepe ou regiões com pouca vegetação mas principalmente onde exista uma grande abundância de alimento, como montados, matas, pomares ou áreas de estepe cerealífera com muros ou ruínas.
It is not a very easy bird to sight because their habits are mainly nocturnal, although, when conditions allow, can be observed during the day or dusk. It has large and white eyebrows on the face. Its wings are large and rounded, dotted in white at the top. The interior part of the body is heavily striped in white and dark brown. It is, as well as all their relatives, strictly carnivorous. Their food are terrestrial invertebrates, amphibians, reptiles and birds and even animals caught on the road. Lives in the steppe or regions with little vegetation but mainly where there is an abundance of food, as assembled, forests, orchards or areas of steppe cereal with walls or ruins.
