This swallow is identified mainly by the golden tone of the lower parts and by the rump that contrast with the rest of the black plumage. The tail is sharply forked. The gliding flight contrasts with the hectic flight of the others swallows, transmiting a sence of tranquility. It is a summer species taht can be observed in Portugal from March to October. In general it is more abundant in the lower half of the Portuguese territory, being scarce on the coast. Often make its nests under bridges and overpass.
