A Viuvinha-bico-de-lacre é uma ave canora residente na maior parte de África ao sul do deserto do Saara, foi também introduzido no sul da Califórnia. Pode ser encontrado em muitos habitats abertos, incluindo floresta aberta, matagal e cultivo. É uma ave parasita, pois coloca os ovos nos ninhos dos Bicos-de-lacre. Ao contrário do Cuco, não destrói os ovos jó existentes. A Viuvinha mede 12-13 cm mas no macho podemos acrescentar mais 20 cm de comprimento devido à sua longa cauda exibindo-a às fêmeas aquando em voo nupcial. A sua dieta consiste em sementes e grãos.
The
Pin-tailed Whydah is a songbird, resident in most of Africa south of
the Saara Desert, it has also been introduced to southern California. It
can be found in many open habitats including open woodland, scrub and
cultivation. It is a parasite which lays its eggs in the nest of
waxbills. Unlike the Common Cuckoo, it does not destroy the host's eggs,
typically 2-4 eggs are added to those already present. The Pin-tailed
Whydah has 12-13 cm length but to the male we can had another 20 cm due
to its long tail that exhibits to the females when in nuptial flight.
The diet consists of seeds and grain.
