It has the tail and back reddish-brown, but what best identifies this bird is its singing, with different sequences of notes. The Nightingale is abundant in Portugal, but usually hides itself in the middle of the dense vegetation and rarely lies at sight. From late march to August, is heard mainly in northern interior and central as well as in the southern coast. In the north frequents all sort of scrubs, while in Alentejo occurs mainly along rivers and streams.
