Assemelha-se ao Pardal-comum, Passer montanus, ao qual se associa fequentemente, podendo por isso formar bandos mistos. Distingue-se principalmente pelo barrete totalmente castanho e pela mancha preta na face. O "babete" é menos extenso que no Pardal-comum. Não é uma ave comum em Portugal. Frequenta principalmente meios rurais, ocorrendo em pequenas aldeias sendo mais comum a norte que no sul do país. Constrói os ninhos em buracos de árvores ou edifícios.
It resembles to the House Sparrow, Passer montanus, which is often associated, forming, therefore mixed flocks. Distinguishes itself mainly by the totally brown cap and the black spot on the face. The "bib" is less extensive than the House Sparrow. It is not a common bird in Portugal. It frequents mainly rural areas, occurring also in small villages, being more common in north than in south of the country. Builds nests in holes of trees or buildings.
