Estes patos mergulham completamente em busca de alimento. O macho é fácil de identificar pela cabeça vermelha contrastando com o resto da plumagem cinzenta e o bico acinzentado. A nível nacional é considerada uma espécie pouco comum e surge no nosso território principalmente como invernante, embora existam pequenos núcleos reprodutores no Algarve e certas zonas do Alentejo. A sua abundância é variável envolvendo pequenos bandos.
These ducks dive completely in search for food. The male is easily identifiable by the red head contrasting with the rest of the gray plumage and greyish beak. At a national level this specie is considered little common and occurs, in our territory mainly as winterer, although there are small reproductive centers in the Algarve and certain areas in Alentejo. Its abundance is variable involving small flocks.
