The first form of identification of this wader is the vocalization when in escaping. Has the rump white contrasting with the dark back and wings. The beak and feet are greenish. It can be found in dams, streams and also in areas of brackish water. It can be seen during almost whole year, except for a short period of two months during spring. This is one of the first returning waders in Northern Europe.
