The Purple Swamphen (Porphyrio porphyrio) distinguishes itself by the blue plumage, which contrasts with the red beak and feet. Hides easily through the vegetation but their vocalization, that remembers one trumpet, denounces their presence. Having been a bird at risk of disappearing as breeding, managed to regain this status and now occurs all over the Algarve as well as in certain wetlands areas of Alentejo and Baixo Mondego ( the latter having reintroduced birds).
